The Graduate Program in Chemistry (PPGQUIM) is the result of the effort of the Department of Chemistry (DEQUI), created in 2014 with the aim of supporting the development of scientific and technological research in Chemistry at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). It offers a strictu sensu Master's degree in Chemistry.
PPGQUIM's mission is to train excellent professionals in chemistry, promote social inclusion, and contribute to regional development, interaction, and integration. By focusing on human resource development, the program seeks to enhance the technical and scientific skills of its students, preparing them to act ethically and transformatively in society. Being located in an inland city, PPGQUIM ensures access for socially vulnerable students from the Inconfidentes region and nearby areas, thus fostering regional development and integration.
The program aims to achieve excellence in scientific and technological research in Chemistry, establishing itself as a regional, national, and international reference to meet societal demands. It adheres to the following values:
- Commitment to high-quality scientific research;
- Ethics and integrity;
- Training reflective and critical professionals;
- Valuing university-society interaction;
- Emphasizing diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility.
PPGQUIM boasts proper infrastructure for graduate training, with a highly qualified faculty working across several research lines:
- Trace Analysis, Environmental Chemistry, and Multivariate Data Analysis;
- Material Chemistry and Chemical Thermodynamics;
- Chemistry of Biologically Active Substances;
- Inorganic Synthesis and Catalysis.
